Declan Kidney has opted to increase game time for a handful of his undercooked players rather than give starts to those who have been waiting in the wings for the Pool C game against Russia in Rotorua on Sunday.

In all the Ireland coach has made nine changes in personnel from the side that beat Australia in Auckland, none of which includes the flanker Shane Jennings, who will have to wait for a run off the bench to get his first action in the tournament. Denis Leamy and Tom Court are also selected on the bench despite their hopes that they would start in Rotorua.

Instead Kidney has opted to give more time to Sean O'Brien at openside, Jamie Heaslip at No8, and Rob Kearney at full-back as well as Cian Healy at loosehead. All came into the tournament short of game time because of injury, and in Healy's case he arrived out late having been detained in Dublin to recover from a broken eye socket.

Fergus McFadden, Paddy Wallace, Isaac Boss, Sean Cronin, Tony Buckley, Donnacha Ryan and Leo Cullen, who will captain the side, will be getting their first action of the World Cup.

Ireland R Kearney; F McFadden, K Earls, P Wallace, A Trimble; R O'Gara, I Boss; C Healy, S Cronin, T Buckley, D O'Callaghan, L Cullen (capt), D Ryan, J Heaslip, S O'Brien. Replacements R Best, M Ross, D Leamy, S Jennings; Reddan, J Sexton, G Murphy, T Court
