Who's your favourite sci-fi hero of all time? Mr Spock? Hmm, maybe. Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Probably not. Surely it's The Doctor - you know, from Doctor Who? Apparently not, at least according to the readers of SFX magazine who turned out in their droves to vote for ... Captain Mal Reynolds from Firefly, the cult US TV series from Joss Whedon that was famously cancelled in its first season. It could have been worse - the doctor was nearly pipped for second place by Captain Jack, star of Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood. Just imagine if that had happened - he'd have torn up the entire space-time continuum in a huff.
