TV ratings - 15 December: The Apprentice baggs nearly 8m viewers

Exit of telecoms entrepreneur helps BBC1 show beat rivals, as Channel 4's Million Pound Drop returns with more than 2m

The Apprentice, BBC1, 9pm ? Nearly 8 million people watched Stuart Baggs fired from The Apprentice, along with Joanna Riley and Jamie Lester. The BBC1 show attracted 7.91 million viewers, a 30.3% share of the audience, up from 7.139 million (28%) last week.

The Lord Sugar show predictably had the better of ITV1's A Touch of Frost repeat, which drew 3.289 million viewers, a 13.2% share, between 8pm and 10pm.

Baggs's appeal ? such as it is ? helped BBC2's spin-off show The Apprentice: You're Fired! to 3.899 million viewers, a 17.9% share. It beat ITV1's News at Ten, which averaged around 2.5 million viewers, an 11.6% share.

MILLION POUND DROP KICKED INTO TOUCH

The Million Pound Drop Live, Channel 4, 8pm ? Channel 4's hit Davina McCall quiz The Million Pound Drop Live returned in an earlier slot with a respectable 2.126 million viewers, a 9% share.

But it lost out to Channel 5's coverage of Liverpool's 0-0 draw with FC Utrecht in the Uefa Europa League, which averaged 2.5 million viewers (10.4%) between 7.30pm and 10.10pm. Live coverage of the match itself, which kicked off at 8.05pm, averaged about 2.9 million viewers.

DIG FOR RATINGS

Dig 1940, BBC1, 7.30pm ? the new BBC1 show in which experts excavated wartime artefacts began with 4.52 million viewers, a 20.8% share, between 7.30pm and 8pm. It beat ITV1's repeat of The Lakes, which drew 3.702 million viewers, a 17.1% share.
