Talking Horses: The latest news and best bets in our daily horse racing blog, plus the weekly tipping competition

The latest news and best bets in our daily horse racing blog, plus the weekly tipping competition

Today's best bets, by Greg Wood

After the seven Group Ones at Longchamp on Sunday, seven-race cards at Pontefract and Warwick seem rather less appealing, but there is one fair bet at Windsor where Sister Guru (4.30) should finally record the first win of her racing career in the nursery.

Peter Hedger's filly has been second on her last two starts, most recently when she was well clear of the rest of the field at Folkestone but could not cope with the handicap blot Billyrayvalentine. She is 4lb higher today, but should still have enough in hand to see off today's field, the only real concern being once-raced winner Relentless Harry.

The form of Dare To Bare (4.20) has taken a step forward since he was fitted with a visor two runs ago and while the switch back to turf at Warick from Polytrack adds a little uncertainty to the situation, a 3lb rise for winning in a decent time at Kempton last time is perfectly fair. Diverting (3.10) is also going to be difficult to beat on the one-mile handicap at Pontefract.

Tipping competition - a new week

Congratulations to SmokingGun1, who picked Caravan Rolls On (14-1) on Friday to sail past goofs and win last week's competition. His prize was a 50 bet on the Arc, which, alas, went on Meandre. 23skidoo, meanwhile, tipping Danedream on yesterday's Talking Horses!

This week's prize is a copy of the glorious new book of racing photographs by Edward Whitaker, chief snapper at the Racing Post. It's called Beyond The Frame and has received a very favourable review here. The cover picture alone is a thing a of beauty.

To kick things off, we'd like your tips, please, for these races: 4.20 Warwick, 4.30 Windsor, 4.40 Pontefract.

As ever, our champion will be the tipster who returns the best profit to notional level stakes of 1 at starting price on our nominated races, of which there will be three each day up until Friday. Non-runners count as losers.

In the event of a tie at the end of the week, the winner will be the tipster who, from among those tied on the highest score, posted their tips earliest on the final day.
