The man with the golden voice stars

This week's round-up also features Australian Open moments, brawling lacrosse players and an unusual rugby league try

1) The Australian Open starts next week and it's worth remembering that Martina Hingis won the tournament when she was 17. Grand slam finals are emotional moments as Andy Murray found out last year when he won a few friends by getting teary after his defeat to Roger Federer. Still it's not the first time Murray's had problems with water. And whoever wins this year is unlikely to match Marat Safin's victory speech from 2005 when he thanked everyone from the security guards to Lleyton Hewitt's girlfriend.

2) It's always a help in bowling if someone else insists on getting your strikes for you.

3) How to get ahead in rugby league. Meanwhile in rugby union, Iain Balshaw has been showing the French some good, honest English flair.

4) In the NFL play-offs Marshawn Lynch runs through the entire New Orleans Saints defence as the Seattle Seahawks shock the Super Bowl champions. You may want to ask LeBron James how to stop opponents, lads. (Below the line, anceight was obviously watching the Seahawks too, because he was the first of you guys to spot it).

5) Surprisingly, motorbikes and large jumps don't always end happily.

6) Roy Hodgson never really had a chance at replacing King Kenny in the hearts of Liverpool fans, what with Britain's largest telecommunications company presenting the Scot as an absolute charmer.

Our favourites from last week's blog ...

1) It's been a while since we've seen high school kids punch 98 bells out of each other but this lacrosse brawl ended the drought. Maybe the teams should hire this eight-year-old ninja to sort out any trouble?

2) Make sure you look where you're going as you approach the final moments of a marathon.

3) A few weeks ago, Ted Williams was living on the streets, now he's been offered a job by NBA side Cleveland Cavaliers.

4) Steven Stamkos goes from NHL hero to laughing stock in the space of a few days.

5) If you're going to be a climber, it's a good idea to learn from the best.

6) Is this rugby league's greatest ever pass?

Spotters' badges: Radar, alistairip, Sugoi, olenino, justabouthopeful (and OlSlov for spotting No5 last week), CorDeRoy, anceight.
